Ulmer suggest that while Black Elk learned through orality, while Ulmer learned via electracy.
This got me to realizing that these Vietnamese folk stories were orally passed down from generation to generation. Without formal education in Vietnam, literacy was not available to most. My grandmother doesn't know how to read or write (besides being able to write and sign her name and maybe a very few other things), even 'til this day; and she's in America. She's raised 11 kids, and she gets around just fine. It goes to show that one COULD live without literacy, although nowadays I believe it is necessary.
ORALITY VS. LITERACY
Your parents teach you as a child via orality. School and education are taught via literacy (and in the future, perhaps electracy)
VS.
With this in mind, I was led to a punctum.
