Dragon Dance

Three siblings came back from a long day in Houston's Vietnamtown--you could also call it Houston's Little Saigon area. Located in southwest Houston on streets such as Bellaire and Beechnut, strips and strips of Vietnamese restaurants and stores lie for miles. All three kids were exhausted, and they slip into a deep sleep on the car ride home.

When they got home, their parents had to carry them in the house because they wouldn't wake up. As they each slowly woke up, they started reminiscing about the day. They got to see the Chinese New Year festival, and they all agreed on one thing---the dragon dance was the best part. As they talked about this cultural dance, they began to get excited.

The oldest sibling, Renee, came up with the idea of DOING a dragon dance. Her brothers, Josh and Nathan, agreed with eagerness. So all through the evening they practiced. Renee played the drums, which was basically a bucket turned upside down, and the two boys were the dragon, which consisted of them being under a comforter. They were practicing to put on a show for their parents.

When it came time for the performance, all three kids ran downstairs to the kitchen to grab some drinks and snacks for their two audience members. They called their parents to the entertainment room, where they would be performing the show of a lifetime. After their parents sat down and got settled in, the show began.

There was so much laughter in the air, as the children were having a blast. Their parents' eyes lit up in joy as they saw their kids having so much fun together, mimicking an Asian tradition. They were proud of their children for being so creative.

Computer Games

Dad finally came home from work. This meant time to eat! We all rushed downstairs as Dad whipped up something special --- Mom's cooking :). Afterwards, we ran upstairs to finish all of our homework while Dad finished up whatever adults do for their jobs. We could never understand or comprehend his work as a NASA engineer. Early nightfall came, and we kids knew what that meant! Time to watch Dad play some computer games. We loved watching him play more than we liked playing. He was just so damn good at it! Mad Dog McCree was the most fun to watch. It was a shooting game with real actors. Doom was also fun to watch Dad play. It was scary and a little bloody, but it kept us on the edge of our seats. 11 o'clock came around--time for bed. We were all disappointed. But that didn't last too long. We couldn't wait for the next day when we would get to watch Dad play new levels.
